Akhwat Hatchery produced its first hatch on 28- December, 2007 and is the first such operation in almost 24 years. The hatching was considered of high quality with an 83% hatch rate. is a private Poultry Hatchery which was built and started operations this past month with the assistance of the USAID funded Alternative Development Program – Eastern Region, Private Sector Development Team. The team provided managerial and technical support as well as secured a loan for the hatchery thru the ARFC another USAID funded organization. The initial eggs for the hatchery were provided by the ADP/E Agri-business program in support of the Eastern Region’s Poultry Program. The newly hatched chicks will be distributed by the Spin Gar Poultry Association to its members, half of which are women farmers to be raised for commercial purposes. The Director of Akhwat Poultry Company is Besmillah Habib and Deputy Director is Ihsanullah Mohsen, we have well educated & skilled staff regarding poultry business, poultry disease specialist and Veterinary doctors.

The Hatchery is located at Hada Akhundzada, approximately 10KM south-east of Jalalabad city. AKHWAL Hatchery has a total capacity of hatching 96,000 eggs/ month. The owner of the hatchery is a well-known poultry trader who has been involved from many years with this business, importing from Pakistan and various other countries. The owner also has his own broiler farms and a distribution center in the middle of Jalalabad where the customers can meet him for further business.

The company is also establishing its own breeder farm in the Eastern Region that will supply eggs for its’ own use and other hatcheries as well. The breeder farm will have the capacity of 5,000 breeders at a time and will reduce the need to import eggs into Afghanistan. This integrated operation will reduce the risk of introducing poultry diseases from outside sources. Ihsanullah proudly stated that “this hatchery is ready to serve the poultry growers of Afghanistan to expand their poultry farms and others to establish new farms. The hatchery will stimulate the development of new poultry growers as they will now have access to a reliable source of disease-free, day-old chicks locally. The ultimate aim of our business is to help expand the region’s current poultry industry. Our chicks and fertilized eggs will be available to the Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar, Nuristan and Kabul markets in the first phase while in later phases the hatchery will spread out its product to various parts of the country. The company has its own specially equipped vehicle to deliver the day-old chicks in prime condition to the customers where ever they are.

Fore instance, producing one-day-old chicks (broiler and layer), producing high quality food for livestock and poultry, equipment’s of poultry farm like feeder, drinker, cooling pad, exhaust fans, incubators, equipment’s of hatchery, technical tools of breeder farm and production of both fertile and infertile eggs.
